Editorial Policy
How We Work
Paperboy has published an independent newspaper directory since 1997. In 2025 we added AI-powered editorial analysis. This page explains how that analysis is produced, what it is, and what it is not.
Editorial responsibility
Paperboy is founded and edited by Ian Duckworth (Canberra, Australia). Ian is responsible for the editorial direction of the site, the design of the analysis pipeline, and the standards described on this page. Paperboy is an independent publication — we have no affiliation with any newspaper publisher, media company, or political organisation.
What AI does and does not do
The front page analysis, Paper Trail story tracking, On the Spot paper selection, and Daily Press Review podcast scripts are all produced by Google Gemini AI from front page images, RSS feeds, and cross-paper comparison prompts designed by our editorial team.
AI analysis describes observable patterns — what papers led with, how framing differed, which stories were absent. It does not express political opinions, endorse any publication, or represent the views of Paperboy or its founder.
AI can make errors: misreading image text, conflating similar stories, or producing plausible-sounding but inaccurate summaries. We treat the analysis as editorial commentary on press behaviour, not as factual reporting of events.
Human oversight
The editorial team reviews the pipeline outputs daily. Analysis prompts are refined when outputs are factually inaccurate, editorially misleading, or inconsistent with observable press behaviour. The newspaper directory itself — 11,000+ listings across 231 countries — has been hand-curated since 1997 and is maintained by the editorial team.
Corrections
If you believe any analysis is factually incorrect or editorially misleading, please contact us. We will review within 48 hours and correct or remove content where warranted. Corrections are made to the live analysis; historical archive entries may retain the original text.
Independence and conflicts of interest
Paperboy is advertiser-supported via Google AdSense. Advertising relationships do not influence which newspapers are listed, how they are ranked, or how they are analysed. We do not accept payment from publishers for directory placement or favourable coverage.
Paperboy links to newspaper websites. We do not have affiliate relationships with newspaper publishers.
Front page images and fair use
Thumbnail images of newspaper front pages are used under fair use / fair dealing principles for the purpose of news commentary and criticism. See our Copyright Policy for the full legal basis and take-down process.
